Steps on the creative path

I am noticing a sustained change in my feelings of being calm and in control of the monster ‘to do’ list since using the “capture list” idea for my work and home life. The other big change we are trying to make is in our eating habits. We are avoiding meat – especially red – dairy, wheat and alcohol. We are in week three of this change. Hubby is feeling full of energy. Me? I hit the wall  this week. I felt like someone had pulled the plug from under my feet and the energy was pouring out. Not sure if its a combination of diet (not getting enough protein?) and lots of yoga…which I suspect is releasing years worth of stored up stuff. Anyone have any expertise on this? Feeling a bit more energetic today. I am having fun making food with spelt instead of wheat (pizza…yum! Bread in oven as I write. Might try pasta tomorrow). I am also making the starter dough for rye bread. Loving it.

Creativity wise, several things to report and celebrate. I facilitated a local school to create a large mosaic mural by training two extremely enthusiastic and dedicated teachers in mosaics, helping them design their mural and advising them along the way. This week, after a huge amount of work by pupils and teachers, they unveiled their beautiful new mosaic mural which is now happily brightening up the school playground. Fantastic!

Work on my triptych commission continues…I am really liking how its coming out and have had fun using a  new material that I have ‘discovered’ from recycled objects (will reveal in a later post for you mosaicist…its a good’un!).

I am now fully booked on my autumn mosaic workshop (yay!) and nearly fully booked on the last course of the year. Lots of enquiries coming in so I am soon going to schedule an extra course for 2010 – watch this space. And to top it all, I met a lovely lady at the Urban Art Fair in Brixton last Saturday. We got chatting and I mentioned that I was a mosaic artist. “I am just looking for one of those” she said. And so it is that I am now running two workshops as part of the Skylark Galleries Summer Sizzle art fortnight at the Oxo tower on the South Bank. Beautiful serendipity.

Last but not least, I have announced my first blog giveaway! For those of you who have not seen it yet, jump to here as you have several days to enter before the draw closes. I will be announcing the winner on Thurs 29th July. Thank to all of you who have already commented on my last blog post – it was a very ‘heartful’ piece of writing that has been gestating in me for a long while and took ages to ‘get out’. But happy that I did 🙂

How has your week been? What have you done that you feel good about, big, small or seemingly insignificant? Any particular successes? Any changes in lifestyle or shifts in your heart and mind going on? Lets celebrate them together…. x

PS Bread is out of the oven…mmmm… yum!

It seems to me that as you are tightening your focus, good things are coming to you. Is it because your organization and accomplishment of steps is giving you more confidence, making you more enthusiastic? It's amazing how getting one thing done, one thing that you put off for awhile, then can make you feel so good when you do it. Aren't we so glad we all took the Flying Lessons together, and we are all in the same, creative and enthusiastic place? It's fun to go on this journey together.

I admire you're keeping up with healthy diet routine. I thought of trying wheet free etc before but soon failed as we both LOVE food too much. As being Japanese, I could have done Japanese diet also, but failed also. We may have a go another try?? Great to hear about your workshop. Indeed such serendipity! (I used to live in Brixton which brought me back some memory too) As for me, this week I started to work at home under a gazebo, whilst a studio is under the construction. So far in a small progess. Happy Sunday to you and all! xm

    Hi, Concetta.

I discovered your blog just a couple of days ago and after reading your inspiring post on why you blog, I had decided to join in with your celebrations with a report on my own blog.

This week, however, for me, has already been summed up in the fantastic day I had today and anything I could say would only be repeating that (and the post I wrote before it), so I will leave it this week and simply bask in what I've already done and do a proper Celebrating post next week 😀 (can you tell that I'm happy about today? :D) Thanks for providing this forum. It is a great idea and I hope you gain everything you can from it.

Congrats on all your mosaic achievements this week. You have me thinking about digging up some tiles myself and giving it a go. Thanks for sharing. You are an inspiration.

    Nutty

It's been a really tough week for me as it was my first week back to work after 2 weeks of blissful time off. But, some good things did happen: I continued to practice my drawing skills throughout the week even though I was absolutely exhausted every day after work. I also submitted my first ever entry for Illustration Friday even though I was reluctant, no idea why, so really pleased that I finally did it. I will definitely continue to participate, there's something really nice about participating in community projects 🙂

Happy SUnday lady! My week was fun, but lost sideways and timewise due to Hub being ill.

Hey! Sounds like you have had a wonderful week and everything is aligned so although you are giving up a few things (red meat AND alcohol!) you are doing marvelously AND your courses being booked up, thats brilliant. Your work at the school is lovely and I just adore your work Concetta, have a fantabulous week. xx
