When did the creativity bug get you?
Or are you an onlooker, seeing ‘arty’ people and wondering if the creativity gift has passed you by?
Is art elitist, only for those who have the time and money to buy it, learn it and do it?
Or is it a universal language of communication, celebration, protest, there for all to make with whatever resources they have around them?
Is art all around you, in everything, or do you have to go to certain places to see ‘real’ art?
What is it about art and creativity that makes it so powerful, so compelling?
Share your thoughts…I will too…
Here’s a little You Tube vid that has been doing the rounds and its about time I posted it here…
Tanya Davis is one of my favorite! I always enjoy this video lots and each time i watch it…im inspired and i wanna continue to work and walk towards my creative dream! Have alovely merry happy weekend and love to yoU!
Hmmm…seems Ike an easy question, but it really is so many-layered for more artists, anyway.
For me? It's all-encompassing, a way of life, a way of seeing the world. It's something to fall into, like a soft pillow, something to get lost in. Oh, I could go on!
I know for sure it is NOT elitist, and I really get frustrated when people throw that statement around. Art is so many things, and I think people get stuck on classic art in museums. Not that we can't learn a lot from museums, but a art is so much more than that. (where that rant just came from, i have no idea!)
Ooops…I meant "seems LIKE an easy…"
And I forgot to say how much I love that video! I think I need to go watch it again.
I was born with the creativity bug, and have always wanted to make and create – it's fantastic that it's becoming popular and fashionable again. I too, strongly feel that art is not elitist, but some people do try to make it so. There's a lot of snobishness around art, and a lot of pretentiousness too, which is one of the reasons I chose to develop my career more in museums rather than art galleries after my Fine Art degree. There's also quite a lot of self-conscious 'preciousness' surrounding it. I find there are some who seem to be as much in love with the idea of 'being' an artist, as the actual process of it. Not sure that makes any sense, or perhaps it's just me being too cynical.
for me art is a way of life (love what AG Ambroult said) and art is so many things. For me it is just about seeing the world in a creative way and finding beauty in it. It's about feeling free, being able to express ourselves without fear. Yes, it's about freedom, beauty, expression and learning. Art can be a painting, a poem, a crafty item or the sight of a tree set against a soft blue pillowy sky…
Oh I love this video and each time I watch it I get inspired to do what I love – my art. Art has always been a part of me – it makes me who I am today – it feeds my soul – without art I'd be lost. I am thankful for my dreams, for my life, for my desire to work hard to support the beauty and freedom art instills in me. Thank you for spreading this lovely video I just love it ?
Great to hear your thoughts – they echo much with me. This time last year I was struggling a lot with wether what I did was valid as art and now, a year on, that struggle has melted away. I think I was coming under the influence of some 'arts police' who I saw as judging me as 'in or out'. Am glad to say that i have expelled that inner critic from my head (where it resided, though not sure how it got there!) and realised that the core of art is that impulse to create, beautify and reflect inner and outer worlds in some form (picture, sound, words)…and this instinct is as strong as our instinct to breathe. It is part of life, it gives life…. PS welcome to new readers of this blog, its very lovely to have you 🙂
