- You know you are a mosaic artist when you find bits of broken tile in your clothes at night…
- You know you are a mosaic artist when, on an evening out, you realise that you still have cement under your finger nails…
-
You know you are a mosaic artist when you buy a plate with the only purpose of smashing it…
-
You know you are a mosaic artists when you find yourself spotting tessellations and andamento’s in public toilets (go on admit it!)…
-
You know you are a mosaic artist when you have a strange fascination with cement…
-
You know you are a mosaic artist when you don’t throw anything away because “I might be able to mosaic with it”…
- You know you are a mosaic artist when your eyebrow tweezers have got glue on them…
- You know you are a mosaic artist when your friend breaks their car windscreen and your say “Bummer – can I have the glass?”…
- You know you are a mosaic artist when your fingers are covered in plasters…
- You know you are a mosaic artist when you take half the beach home with you (11kg of stones once -on the plane!)…
I have been doing this series on my Facebook Page. Do feel free to add more (click on comments under the title of this blog post)!
Have a great week, whatever you do…
Gosh … I can so relate to this. Many of my beaded necklaces have become shorter over the years and nothing gets binned before it is scrutinized very carefully 🙂
Oh yes, the jewellery..!
I was going to add: I use a lot of jewelry in my mosaics, I never see a piece of jewelry without thinking about how I can take it apart to use in a mosaic. I actually admired a pin a woman was wearing once & she gave it to me when I told her how I’d use it. Everything else you said, I can so relate to.
What a great story 😉
I just went through my costume jewelry and swiped several things to “dismantle” to use as tesserae. LOL!!!
A very sensible use of costume jewely methinks!
You know you’re a mosaic artist when you dream in mosaics…and don’t want to wake up! When the dream you had where the tile seller offers to keep a box of coloured tiles for you is not a dream and she is really making the offer! When you meet another mosaicist and she talks about stockpiling tiles etc….and you realise she thinks just like you do!!
Yup, we are a tribe!
So true. We find tiles, millefiori and smalti in the most unlikely places. Not just at work but at home and in the cars.
Maybe we should make a list of the unlikely places..!
You know you are a mosaic artist when you collect the plastic spoons and wooden stirrers at places like pret a manger, M&S etc. ‘cos they’ll be useful for grouting etc………..!
oh yes! I do that too!
I feel I belong to that same tribe! I have found myself trying to keep andamento in the pieces of meat and vegetables when I start grilling!
And we can also say that you know you are a mosaic artist when you walk picking up from the floor bits and pieces of weird stuff that you may use later in a mosaic…
What a lovely comment Janis – yes we are in the same tribe! So fully about the way you gill your meat!!
You know you are a mosaic artist when you wake up first thing in the morning and all you want to do is check out your mosaics from the day before.
