Contact me to arrange a bespoke day in in my studio where you will receive one-to-one tuition to learn the basics of mosaic making, within a supportive therapeutic environment that will facilitate you to explore and honour your life experience.
This page provides ideas, links and resources for those interested in developing mosaic skills generally and for people interested in the link between creativity, mosaic art and wellbeing.
From 2008 until the pandemic I offered weekly mosaic classes and ran community mosaic projects.
Whilst my time is now focused on my own art practice and my work as a psychotherapist, from 2026 I am providing bespoke "THERAPEUTIC MOSAICS DAYS" for people who wish to process big life events (loss, transition, healing from trauma) and honour their soul's journey through the making of a mosaic. No prior experience is necessary so if you are interested, do get in touch and we can explore this together.
From the hundreds of classes and students I have worked with, I observed people picking up mosaic materials, starting to cut, move, place pieces and literally exhale the words, “This is so therapeutic…”. Again and again, students would speak of my studio as “a creative, peaceful refuge in my week“, “a little oasis of calm” and “my weekly therapy“.
From these experiences, and the gathering of stories from mosaicists around the world for my "Behind the Glass" exhibition, what I saw emerge is the strength of mosaic making as a way of calming inner turbulence, regulating a busy nervous system and ‘grounding’ when faced with strong emotions – the mosaic making taking on an mindful quality (Rappaport, 2014). Making mosaic brings together fragmented parts of self, a strong metaphor of the medium. It also serves as a way to process illness and bereavement, the end product of which is a lasting tribute to inner experiences and to loved ones. Lastly, this most solid and tangible of art forms is used to outwardly express an inner desire for connectedness – to different parts of self, to others, to creativity and play and to the earth itself.
There are a host of articles, tutorials and tips that I have written on the Glittering Shards blog over the years covering lots of topics such as mosaic tips and tricks, mosaic tutorials for children, supplies and discussing issues such as art making and mindfulness and community art. Some of the categories are listed below but you can get them all by clicking on the blog and browsing!
More resources will be added over time, both as blog posts, online and real time courses so to keep informed, make sure you are on my mailing list.
